The AI-RAN Alliance, formed in February 2024 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, includes key industry players like NVIDIA, Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung. The alliance focuses on three key research areas:
- AI for RAN: Enhancing RAN capabilities through AI to improve spectral efficiency.
- AI and RAN: Integrating AI and RAN processes for better infrastructure use and new revenue opportunities.
- AI on RAN: Utilizing AI services at the network edge to increase operational efficiency and deliver new services to mobile users.
Rohde & Schwarz’s membership builds on its earlier collaboration with NVIDIA, where they pioneered a test bed to explore neural receiver implementations for AI-native air interfaces, promising to improve network performance and efficiency. By joining this alliance, Rohde & Schwarz emphasizes its dedication to driving innovation and collaboration for the future of wireless communications.
Andreas Pauly, Chief Technology Officer at Rohde & Schwarz, commented: “Collaboration is critical to unlocking the full potential of 6G technology components, such as an AI-native air interface. By partnering with leading industry players and joining the AI-RAN Alliance, we ensure that we remain at the forefront of wireless communications innovation.”
