Yangquan TV’s New 4K Truck Rolls Out with Cobalt’s 12G Solutions

Broadcaster simultaneously taps Cobalt to outfit OB Truck and new HD Studio
Yangquan TV has rolled out its latest outside broadcast (OB) truck optimized for 4K and supported on-board by a significant complement of Cobalt Digital’s 12G and HD openGear modules. Yangquan TV, a government run broadcaster located in Yang Quan City in the Shanxi Province of China, built the truck to address a growing appetite for enhanced resolution in sports programming.
According to Mr. Hu li, General Engineer at Yangquan TV, “The migration from 1080i HD transmission and acquisition to 4K and 3G HD is starting to gain traction all over China. Cobalt’s solutions brought us the latest advances in these technologies for enhanced resolution which leads to an elevated entertainment experience for our viewers, and ultimately attracts better advertising prospects.”
Yanquan TV incorporated Cobalt’s 9971-MV18 expandable UHD Multiviewers into the truck for flexible 4K monitoring, ultimate flexibility, cost-savings, simple setup and ease-of-use. The manufacturer’s 9904-UDX-4K up and down converter, its next generation of advanced scaler/frame synchronizers for the openGear® platform, offers the broadcaster simultaneous HDR & SDR production from a single path allowing operators to dynamically map HDR color space onto a SDR color space. In addition, the truck is using Cobalt’s 9915DA quad-channel multi-rate reclocking DA for crosspoint routing up to 16 DA outputs.
“We conducted a thorough evaluation of competing solutions for these significant projects and found Cobalt’s products provided the perfect solutions for us, both in the 4K truck and in the news studio,” added Mr. Hu li. “The 12G system in the truck addresses all the requirements of 4K production and is even compatible with legacy HD formats through the Company’s up/down/cross conversion solutions. We found the quality of the products to be exceptional, and the customer service was excellent. Using Cobalt in both the new truck and studio is the first time for us, but we look forward to adding Cobalt products as we expand our systems.”
Yangquan TV tapped Cobalt solutions to migrate to 3G in its new studio built for broadcasting news programming. Cobalt’s 9902-2UDX 3G/HD/SD-SDI dual-channel up-down-cross converter/frame sync/audio embed/de-embed was installed as was its 9903 universal format converter, and its 9910DA-AV analog video distribution amplifier. The studio also went live on-air at the end of 2020.
