While it may seem just as offbeat, the broadcast industry is about to embark on a voyage to discover a new way of doing old things. While SDI may seem to be giving way to IP, it may surprise you that during this transition, we are really doing things in relatively the same way we have been. Put your space helmets on and climb aboard the Vogon ship with Scott Barella (CTO, Utah Scientific) while we review the pillars of SMPTE ST 2110 and discover all the working parts of this new standard and how it’s already starting to emerge. It’s also possible to discover ‘42’ but we’ll save that for the journey. [maxbutton id="136" url="https://theiabm.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ScottBarella.pdf"]
IP Production – What’s Next?
As we reach the conclusion of the SMPTE process for first round of video and audio transports over IP David Atkins (Technical Director, Suitcase TV) looks at the next steps in the JT-NM roadmap and examines what’s the best way to proceed for a number of use cases. What does SMPTE ST 2110 do for us and where else in the workflow can we use it for non production sources such as talkback and IFB? We consider the additional workflows needed to make production possible from talkback/IFB, metadata and signalling for GPI’s and tallies. What protocols are proposed or already exist that we can re-purpose to implement this and how do they fit into the JT-NM reference architecture and the infrastructure already implemented by many suppliers? BCE at RTL City – Video Over IP Infrastructure
Having a really tight schedule, BCE had to implement SMPTE ST 2022-6 to go on air beginning of 2017, utilising 100% network infrastructure. Costas Colombus (Special Projects Manager, BCE) presents the details, benefits and issues. [maxbutton id="136" url="https://theiabm.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/CostasColombus.pdf"]
