Making sense of IBC 26 September 2016 Written by IABM Director of Strategic Insight John Ive With IBC behind us it’s time to reflect on the trends the event has exposed. IABM data, presented early on in the conference, indicated a slow-down in broadcast and media business. One interpretation is that the transitions we are going through in all areas have created a period of uncertainty, with new generation solutions on the horizon not yet mature enough for end-users to invest in. Naturally with so much change afoot there is a reluctance to spend money on systems that may soon be superseded by more agile and efficient alternatives. The good news is that real progress was shown at IBC from the technology suppliers which over the next twelve months should help release projects that are currently on hold. IABM announced the winners of the “Design & Innovation Awards” at IBC and this year there was a clear and increasing trend towards IT and Cloud-based solutions in addition to solutions which are classified as a service rather than a product.
