The promise of TV Everywhere is simple: enable subscribers to watch all their pay-TV content anytime, anywhere and on any device without having to log-in repeatedly. However, to deliver on that promise, content providers must work with video service operators in a certain way. This session suggests how a common authentication system can reduce friction within the content distribution workflow and ultimately enable TVE services with an ease that consumers want and expect, improving the subscriber value proposition while reducing churn.
Petr Peterka (CTO, Verimatrix) explores how using blockchain for publishing video would create a widely-available and cryptographically-protected database. With this model, video service providers would be able to discover and access content in the file format, encoding standard and the digital rights they need. It would also serve as a mechanism to manage payment, track metrics on who is distributing/viewing the content and enforce usage rules.
