Production of live major events has been in transition for a number of years. A move to remote production and a desire to get high-impact shots from roaming cameras in densely populated areas has often required complex implementations.
Could the availability of on-site, private 5G networks create an improved implementation and become an all-IP gateway to the production centre at the network-edge? A recent trial led by the BBC at the Commonwealth Games has been exploring this new technology.
