Former Comcast Leader to Drive Regional Growth and Strategic Vision
Appear, the global leader in live production technology, is pleased to announce the appointment of Andy McClelland as Senior Vice President & General Manager for the UK & Ireland. Andy joins Appear from Comcast, bringing with him more than 25 years of experience in video technology across engineering, sales, and executive leadership roles in the broadcast and media industry.
This appointment underscores Appear’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge media processing and content delivery solutions in one of its core markets. Andy will lead commercial operations in the UK & Ireland region, accelerate go-to-market strategies, and enhance customer engagement, as Appear meets the growing demand for hybrid cloud and software-defined workflows.
Andy began his career in video engineering before progressing into a series of commercial leadership roles at prominent media technology companies. His extensive knowledge of both hardware-centric infrastructures and software-driven service models positions him uniquely to lead Appear’s UK & Ireland operations at a time when broadcasters and operators are seeking agile, high-efficiency solutions for live event contribution and remote production.
Having long respected Appear as a competitor, Andy McClelland shares what drew him to the company: “I’ve known and competed against Appear for years and always admired the team’s ability to deliver. When the opportunity to join came up, I was genuinely flattered. What excites me most is how Appear has brilliantly timed its R&D, offering the right solution whether customers need flexible modular hardware, a hybrid setup, or a full software/cloud architecture.”
A key focus for Andy will be expanding adoption of the VX software platform in the UK & Ireland. VX, designed to complement Appear’s award-winning X Platform, enables media organizations to build scalable, low-latency production workflows with modular software components. Andy’s commercial expertise in SaaS and managed service models will be instrumental as Appear deepens its transition to software-based revenue streams.
He also plans to grow Appear’s customer engagement initiatives, including the continuous efforts for Appear’s Customer Councils, that give clients a voice in product development and foster knowledge-sharing around workflow innovation.
Andy concludes: “I’m a huge believer in customer councils. They build community, surface real-world needs, and help us innovate more smartly. Appear doesn’t just say it listens – it really does.”
He brings with him a truly global perspective: prior to joining Appear in April 2025, Andy was Head of Sales for Comcast Technology Solutions’ Streaming, Broadcast & Advertising business across EMEA and APAC, where he led complex, multi-regional sales programs. His previous leadership roles at GatesAir (Managing Director, EMEA), Harmonic, and Imagine Communications saw him drive transformative growth and deepen customer partnerships across the region.
“Andy’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Appear’s UK & Ireland operations and aligns with the company’s broader mission to deliver sustainable, high-performance solutions for the most demanding live production environments,” says Thomas Bostrøm Jørgensen, CEO, Appear. “Andy not only shares our passion for customer collaboration and technical innovation but also brings a global perspective that will further strengthen our ability to support broadcasters and operators navigating the shift to hybrid and software-defined infrastructures.”
