Kiloview on NDI 6.2: Engineering What’s Next for IP Video Workflows

Fri 03, 10 2025

In June, 2025, the NDI® team officially rolled out NDI 6.2, marking a meaningful step forward for the IP video industry. As one of the earliest adopters and consistent innovators in the NDI ecosystem, Kiloview welcomed the release with both excitement and readiness. Jacob Zuo, Founder and CTO of Kiloview, shares his perspective on how NDI 6.2 strengthens real-world workflows—and how Kiloview is leveraging this evolution to push the boundaries of performance, quality, and scalability in NDI-based video infrastructure.

Q1: How does Kiloview view the release of NDI 6.2?

A1: At Kiloview, we’ve always believed in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with IP-based video, especially when it comes to NDI. With the release of NDI 6.2, we don’t just see a version update, we see a major leap forward toward a more robust, scalable, and professional NDI ecosystem. Kiloview is proud to be at the forefront of this evolution.

NDI 6.2 brings critical improvements that align closely with the needs we’ve observed in the field. Our customers often require flexible deployment options, remote access capabilities, and seamless device discovery. This release helps make those goals more achievable, and lays a stronger foundation for next-generation IP video workflows.

Q2: What are the key features in NDI 6.2 that make a difference?

A2: One of the most impactful changes is the transformation of NDI Discovery Server and NDI Bridge into Windows Services. This has huge implications for real-world deployments. At Kiloview, we developed a new AMD Ryzen 8000-based compute card for our 2RU rackmount chassis RF02, which can host up to four such cards.

With NDI 6.2, we’re able to build hardware-based, high-performance NDI Discovery and Bridge Services with Web UI, making deployment in professional AV environments dramatically easier.

Q3: What technical challenges did Kiloview overcome to support NDI 6.2?

A1: Our engineering team has tackled some of the most technically demanding challenges of the NDI 6.2 roadmap, especially implementing full 10-bit HDR encoding and decoding on FPGA platforms. Achieving this required deep-level optimization to overcome the bandwidth limitations of FPGA DDR when processing 4K 10-bit video, but we successfully made it happen.

This isn’t just about keeping up with the pace—it’s about leading the way. This breakthrough is more than just a technical achievement. It delivers real, tangible benefits for users who demand ultra-high-quality, low-latency NDI video, whether in broadcast, live production, or enterprise AV environments.

Q4: Did NDI 6.2 help us solve real problems?

A4: Absolutely. The improved Discovery and Bridge services address key user pain points in managing large-scale deployments and remote workflows. The Receiver API gives us a clearer, more efficient approach to managing NDI receivers. And on our end, the addition of full 10-bit/HDR support further complements the capabilities of the NDI SDK—especially for customers working in color-critical environments.

Q5: What was it like being an early user of NDI 6.2?

A5: Being part of the NDI 6.2 validation program across our product portfolio gave us strong confidence in its core functionality and stability. While we haven’t yet fully implemented the new Receiver Advertiser API, we’re excited by its potential to standardize device discovery, an area where we previously had to build creative workarounds.

Q6: What Kiloview products will support NDI 6.2 and when?

A6: Our flagship N50 and N60 encoder/decoder series will be the first to launch with full NDI 6.2 support in July 2025. The compute cards for our RF02 Cradle Platform will follow at the end of Q3, enabling hardware-based Discovery/Bridge services. Other Kiloview products will receive rolling firmware updates with NDI 6.2 support in the months to follow.

N50 / N60 ConvertersCradle Series RF02Q7: Why choose Kiloview in the NDI ecosystem?

Because we don’t just adopt standards, we build on them.

We optimize, we enhance, and we deliver NDI solutions that are more capable, more flexible, and more scalable. From pioneering 10-bit HDR NDI encoding at the FPGA level to enabling powerful discovery and routing services on hardware, Kiloview is committed to leading the NDI ecosystem into its next phase.

With NDI 6.2, Kiloview is not just keeping pace, we’re shaping what’s next.
