Rohde & Schwarz opens expanded automotive innovation hub in Osaki, Japan
Rohde & Schwarz has opened a new, significantly larger office in Osaki, Japan, replacing its former Shinjuku location and strengthening support for the Japanese automotive industry. The expanded facility enhances service, repair, calibration and engineering support capabilities, while providing increased space for customer demonstrations and events.
The Osaki office hosts advanced demonstrations developed with leading automotive partners, showcasing realistic vehicle testing under dynamic conditions. These include EMC testing with AIP Automotive using chassis dynamometers and radar target simulators, enabling vehicle-in-the-loop validation of EVs and radar systems. Proximity to AIP’s nearby office enables faster service and support turnaround.
Rohde & Schwarz is also expanding in-vehicle network compliance testing in Japan through collaborations with Granite River Labs (GRL) and Analog Devices. The new facility offers local access to high-performance oscilloscopes and vector network analyzers to accelerate standards-compliant testing for technologies such as Automotive Ethernet, ASA and OpenGMSL™, tailored to the Japanese market.
In autonomous driving development, Rohde & Schwarz and IPG Automotive are jointly demonstrating Automotive Radar Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems at the Osaki site. By combining CarMaker simulations with Rohde & Schwarz radar target simulators and antenna arrays, the setup enables safe, efficient validation of ADAS and NCAP-defined scenarios, including Japan-specific traffic simulations.
The company is also expanding automotive non-terrestrial network (NTN) testing to Japan in collaboration with MediaTek. Using the R&S CMX500 radiocommunication tester, customers can validate NR-NTN, NB-NTN and Direct-to-Cell connectivity across the full vehicle integration chain, from chipsets to complete vehicles.
