IBC 2022 – How A+E Networks EMEA increased business resilience with a hyper-targeted D2C offering

Alex Wilkinson – Head of Sales & Marketing, Accedo

Matt Westrupp – Senior Vice President of Technology and Operations, A+E Networks

A+E Networks EMEA delivers a wealth of compelling content to consumers. Traditionally this has all been via partners, both pay TV operators and media companies such as Amazon and Apple TV. With a bulging catalogue and a shift in consumption habits, A+E Networks EMEA started to look at launching a D2C offering to complement its existing business.

A+E Networks EMEA has a passionate, engaged audience for its Crime+ Investigation brand, both on linear and SVOD. As the demand for true crime content continues to rise, the time felt right to consider the launch of a direct-to-consumer true crime product.

A+E Networks EMEA is an established broadcaster offering premium content but launching D2C was a new venture for it. Therefore, getting this right meant identifying the right solution and partner to support A+E Networks EMEA on this new journey.

In this session, Accedo and A+E Networks EMEA will discuss the decision to launch a D2C service, the growing trend for niche services, as well as discussing some of the unique considerations that need to be addressed for these kinds of services. They will also discuss A+E Networks EMEA’s journey from idea to launch.
