After years of working with the legacy Avid PAM system, Al Jazeera transitioned to the modern Avid MediaCentral | Cloud UX platform. This technological upgrade opened the door to the deployment of advanced AI tools that enable faster news creation and more efficient content delivery to viewers. The Traco AI system from the TracoApps portfolio was implemented in the newsroom, customized to meet the needs of the editorial workflow, with an emphasis on performance, security, and automation.
In an environment that processes content in dozens of languages and operates 24/7, every minute counts. TracoApps deployed the Traco AI application at Al Jazeera, which covers transcription, translation, summarization, and intelligent search directly within Avid MediaCentral. The on-prem solution guarantees security, data control, and uninterrupted process automation.
The technological core is formed by a high-performance SWARM cluster with 6 GPUs, 6 CPUs, and 3 TB of RAM. The architecture is modular, ready to scale, with native integration into Avid Cloud UX. The system processes over 40,000 hours of video content annually—from transcription and translation into 32 languages, to face and object detection, to dual-layer summarization. Each output is instantly available to editors and producers.
The deployment was carried out in four phases—from hardware configuration through AI module integration to team training. The newsroom adopted the new workflow quickly, thanks to the intuitive interface and the system’s ability to simplify complex processes into a few clicks.
In live operation, the system proved capable of handling breaking news in real time, with no bottlenecks and high output accuracy. Today, editors use AI as a natural part of their daily work, reducing processing time from hours to minutes.
The project at Al Jazeera confirms that a customized solution, developed in close cooperation between the engineering team and editorial staff, can fundamentally transform news production dynamics. The result is not only technological advancement but also a strategic shift. The newsroom is now ready to create AI-supported content at a scale that was unthinkable just a short time ago.
TracoApps are not an add-on. They have become an integral part of the workflow behind news broadcasting to more than 150 countries around the world.
TracoApps is a strategic development brand of Traco Systems, an official Avid Alliance Partner. TracoApps are certified by Avid and natively integrated into Avid MediaCentral | Cloud UX.
