Singapore, 14 November 2023: Caton Technology, a pioneer in next-generation cloud-based IP network transport solutions, has successfully completed the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Foundational Technical Review (FTR) for its Media XStream software-as-a-service media delivery platform.
The FTR enables AWS partners to identify and remediate risks in their products or solutions. A self-service review, the FTR process provides specific guidelines and AWS best practices to reduce risks around security, documentation, reliability and operational excellence, as defined by the AWS-Well Architected Framework. Building on the successful FTR, Caton Technology is now an AWS Managed Service Provider for Caton Media XStream, a transformational, cloud native approach to content delivery over IP including the public internet.
The challenge for carrying high value content globally is that, while the public internet is ubiquitous, it is inherently unreliable and unpredictable. Caton addresses this in Media XStream, which combines high quality content delivery with a management network that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to determine all the possible routes a signal could take between source and destination. It quickly establishes which route offers the best in terms of quality, reliability, and cost-efficiency, then dynamically reroutes the signal almost instantaneously if a better route is available, or congestion appears.
The result is a level of reliability which exceeds even the highest broadcast expectations. Six nines – 99.9999% availability – is guaranteed, and practical services in even the most challenging circumstances operate continually for months with zero errors.
The processing of all this data and managing the routing of streams over intercontinental distances is provided seamlessly within Caton Cloud, as a highly specialised cloud service. The achievement of the AWS FTR demonstrates that the solution aligns with the implementation of AWS best practices, to reduce security, reliability, and operational excellence risks, as defined by the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
“Caton Media XStream is a unique and valuable solution to a real issue for broadcasters and production companies globally,” said Michael Yang, senior VP at Caton Technology. “There is an ever-growing demand for content, for higher resolutions and for timely delivery of live sports and events. At the same time, practical economics mean that leased lines and satellite delivery is no longer viable.
“The public internet – for all its problems – is the right way to go,” Yang said. “What we have achieved in developing Media XStream, and are delivering in collaboration with AWS, is a technology platform that eliminates the problems of the internet, creating an intelligent platform to deliver the most valuable content, completely reliably, with guaranteed security, and with simple set-up and no operational demands. Our distributed cloud architecture complements exceptionally well with the centralized architecture of AWS. Completing the AWS FTR is another key step in demonstrating the effectiveness of our solution.”
