Chyron Showcases Stability, Growth, and Robust Product Development at IBC2023

Fri 13, 10 2023

MELVILLE, N.Y. — Sept. 28, 2023 — Building on the momentum of major product announcements and award wins at NAB Show earlier this year, Chyron last week concluded a successful showing at IBC2023. In presentations and product demonstrations throughout the conference and exhibition, Chyron highlighted its continued financial stability and growth; extensive innovation across solutions for sports, news, and cloud production; and ongoing expansion and hiring in key roles, with a focus on enhancing customer support.

“Returning to IBC for the first time since 2019, it was fantastic to be in a position to tout Chyron’s strong fiscal growth over the years and our continued investment in the teams driving research and development, as well as customer support,” said Mike Truex, president at Chyron. “New enhancements and efficiencies across our product line speak to the needs of today’s users, empowering them to leverage the latest tools and resources — including cloud workflows, AI-enabled automation, and data visualization — in telling their stories. We’ve brought a rich array of exciting features and capabilities to our graphics platforms in recent months, and IBC attendees’ response to the robust tool set on display was extraordinary.”

Chyron at 57: Building for the FutureThis year marks Chyron’s 57th year in business, and Truex announced at IBC2023 that the company has realized a 9% year-over-year increase in recurring revenue, along with a year-over-year staff increase of 8%, with much of those personnel dedicated to R&D. He also noted the company’s increased commitment to support and training, underscoring the importance of a customer-centric focus to Chyron’s business health.

The formal introduction of Alain Polgar as the company’s senior vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) demonstrates Chyron’s commitment to elevating customer satisfaction across key markets worldwide. A long-time industry executive but brand-new to Chyron, Polgar spoke to the disruption rippling through the industry — modes of consumption, business models, enabling technologies — and of how Chyron has positioned itself to provide the tools and solutions that today’s broadcasters and content producers demand rather than simply pushing users toward its graphics solutions and platforms.

Key Product AnnouncementsChyron’s IBC2023 stand (7.A45) featured the company’s innovation in every direction, with a control room-worthy installation of displays showcasing new features and new product releases — including a wealth of well-developed beta versions — across news, sports, and live production in the cloud. PRIME 4.9 (graphics), PAINT 9.6 (illustrated replay, or telestration), WEATHER 2.0, CAMIO 5.4 (MOS-driven graphics asset management), and Chyron LIVE 1.5 (cloud-native, all-in-one live production) were all on display at IBC2023 as beta versions, too much acclaim.

PRIME 4.9 focuses on fast, efficient data management at every point in the graphics workflow and provides features that optimize performance — such as auto-bypass in the case of hardware failure, support for load-balanced proxy output with the option of displaying fewer frames, and improved texture caching to accommodate more and larger files. PAINT 9.6 includes a host of new features that offer more advanced analysis tools (inspired by requests from top-tier analysts), enhance ease of use, and add new presentation options for audience engagement. PAINT 9.6 boasts multiangle telestration, preconfigured skins for adapting the UI layout and visibility as PAINT content is presented to audiences and options for presentation of telestrated video with or without UI tools. Further features enable more advanced use of the Cut-Out Tool, a wide selection of object and positional indicators, and a tool for highlighting an entire region on the playing surface.

Chyron WEATHER 2.0 was a surprise hit on the Chyron stand despite its beta status, garnering attention not only for its promise of easy-to-use creation and presentation tools but also for its weather data flexibility, sleek design options, and integration with CAMIO, which can drive not only graphical overlays (CG graphics) but also video walls, virtual sets, weather segments, and even camera cues in an efficient, mixer-free workflow. CAMIO 5.4, shown in beta at IBC2023, integrates with the fully cloud-based Seven Mountains DiNA NRCS and offers new asset management efficiency and quality features including watch folder ingest logic, exportable folder content lists, a file size meter displayed prior to file transfers, user-defined asset deletion, and purge preferences across a hub-and-spoke ecosystem.

Chyron partnered, alongside several other vendors, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to demonstrate a fully cloud-based news workflow incorporating PRIME CG (graphics) and CAMIO (graphics-NRCS integration). Hosted on AWS and developed according to AWS best practices, the cloud-native Chyron LIVE production application boasts broadcast-grade animated graphics, multicamera vision mixing, clip playback, illustrated sports replay, and audio control, all from a single UI. Shown in beta, Chyron LIVE 1.5 includes security features that position Chyron LIVE for the AWS Foundational Technical Review (FTR). Users can activate a Chyron LIVE production environment in a self-service model and work from a desktop, laptop, or tablet thanks to a responsive UI design.

“We have put our energy and focus toward product development that addresses real user requests and needs, and IBC2023 gave us the chance to show off the tremendous achievements of our product teams over the past weeks and months,” said Carol Bettencourt, vice president of marketing at Chyron. “Innovation across AI-driven sports replay, management of large quantities of data, implementation of cloud-native production, and more — we brought it all to IBC, showcasing the real, everyday benefits Chyron solutions deliver for the storytellers of today and tomorrow.”
