Cobalt Digital Heads to MPTS with Award-Winning Portfolio of New Products

Manufacturer plans also include path to the cloud and redundancy updates

London – May 8, 2023 – Cobalt Digital, Inc. is packing a line-up of powerful solutions into Stand J34 at The Media Production & Technology Show (MPTS) being held on 10-11 May at Olympia London – Grand Hall. The designer and manufacturer of award-winning edge devices for live video production and master control, and a founding partner in the openGear® initiative, has revealed exhibition plans that include a newly launched converter series, encoder/decoder family enriched with RIST Adaptive Encoding and a video content transport solution that operates in the cloud. At the recent NAB 2023 Show, four of Cobalt’s new releases received awards.

Sapphire Converter Series

Sapphire BIDI-2H2S dual channel bidirectional HDMI to SDI / SDI to HDMI converter

At MPTS, Cobalt will be presenting its newly launched Sapphire converter family. Front and center of the series will be the Sapphire BIDI-2H2S, a dual channel bidirectional HDMI to SDI / SDI to HDMI converter that conserves space in existing openGear® installations. Each channel can be independently configured to have either SDI or HDMI inputs and each channel has simultaneous SDI and HDMI outputs. This provides input and output options with independent paths of true 3G and HD conversions to and from all the SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI formats and HDMI. Each path is equipped with frame sync as well as full input and output audio cross-points for bi-directional program sourcing and distribution and optional color correction per-path is also available.

Sapphire 8JXS-8S – ST 2110 JPEG-XS to SDI Bulk Gateway

The Sapphire 8JXS-8S, winner of both a 2023 NAB Show Product of the Year award and an NAB Best of Show award, is a ST 2110 JPEG-XS to SDI bulk gateway in openGear form factor that allows up to 40 signal conversions in a standard openGear chassis. The card includes dual 25Gb/s Ethernet ports for SMPTE ST 2022-7 seamless switching and supports up to 8 SDI signals, up to 1920x1080p60 and includes full NMOS support for ease of configuration in addition to the standard openGear DashBoard.

Sapphire BBG-2110-H/S & Sapphire BBG-2110-2H – ST 2110 JPEG-XS to HDMI Converter Appliance

Cobalt is also previewing an appliance in the Sapphire line for JPEG-XS to HDMI conversion. The Sapphire BBG-2110-H/S & Sapphire BBG-2110-2H mini converters are part of Cobalt’s Blue Box Group (BBG) series  and also received 2023 NAB Show Product of the Year Awards.  The compact units design, function, and reliability in a small package, are intended to be mounted behind the monitor and include single or dual 25Gb/s ports (for ST 2022-7 redundancy).  Two models will be available: a single channel (one HDMI port), and a dual channel (two HDMI ports).

The Sapphire 8JXS-8S openGear card and the Sapphire BBG-2110-H/S & Sapphire BBG-2110-2H mini converters are being previewed at MTPS and will be available in Summer 2023.

9992 ENC/DEC Family Gets RIST Adaptive Encoding

Cobalt’s software-defined family of 9992-ENC/DEC encoders/decoders offer traditional broadcast features combined with advanced network options to provide a perfect solution for sports, news gathering, video contribution and affiliate distribution. The series now offers RIST Source Adaptation (VSF TR-06-4 Part 1), a specification that defines a protocol for the stream receiver to provide feedback information to the source to trigger an appropriate action. RIST Source Adaptation enables the 9992-ENC encoder to adapt its output data rate to match network conditions instantaneously based on feedback from the decoder. If network traffic conditions deteriorate, the encoder adjusts without interruption and is restored automatically once the network improves.

SafeLink Gateway in the Cloud and Redundancy Features

SafeLink 8TS-VM – SafeLink Gateway in the Cloud

Cobalt’s SafeLink Gateway transports any audio and video content over the internet with low latency. The solution is now available as a cloud instance in addition to the openGear form factor. Honored at NAB with a Best of Show award, it is ideal for ground-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground transmission using RIST.

SafeLink Hardware Redundancy

A 1+1 redundancy for the hardware based SafeLink Gateway is also now available.
