In Broadcast and Media, SMPTE standards are a bedrock upon which products are built – ranging from IP transport to Video formats to MXF file format to SDI to Timecode – and the list goes on.
The IABM participates in these SMPTE Standards meeting rounds that are held quarterly. This round was held at the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Mechatronics.
This was an opportunity to network with members of the SMPTE Poland section and a visit was organized to Black Photon, a facilities house in Warsaw, who also assisted with the meeting setup.
Meeting rounds feature project reports on current standards developments from each of the Technology Committees. The ones that are relevant to us are:
- Essence (10E)
- Metadata and Registers (30MR)
- File Formats and Systems (31FS)
- Network and Facilities Architecture (32NF)
- Media Systems, Control and Services (34CS)
- Media Packaging and Interchange (35PM)
We have compiled
- an executive summary introducing new work just starting and a high-level view of project developments that we think are most relevant to members.
- a detailed report of progress on Standards projects that we believe will be of interest to members
Both documents are available to members on this website page.
We welcome any member queries or suggestions on our technology standards services – email here. We can supply more details on any projects that have an impact on your work.
The next SMPTE meeting round will be held online in early December.
To get a feel for the scope of all active SMPTE projects, see this current project list. If you see any topics that you would like more details on, contact us.
