Macau, with its unique charm, once again becomes the focus of the world.
In 2024, the ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cups were held here, where the passion and excitement of table tennis collided, presenting spectators with extraordinary matches.
As the host broadcaster (HB) of this event, QD Broadcast bears the responsibility of conveying the charm of table tennis to global audiences.
We deeply understand that behind every match lies the hard work and resilience of the athletes, with each move showcasing their skills and determination.
Therefore, QD Broadcast spares no effort in providing a viewing experience that feels as immersive as being at the venue itself through professional HB-related work.
In aspects such as technical standards setting, broadcast plan design, coordination of broadcast operations, distribution of event signals, commentary services, broadcast execution, as well as coverage of press conferences and draw ceremonies, QD Broadcast aims to enhance the IP value of the event. We adhere to rigorous work ethics, offering comprehensive, rich, and professional HB services to ensure the smooth completion of the broadcast for the event organizers and rights-holding broadcasters.
This event is not only held in one of Asia’s top indoor venues (Macao Galaxy Entertainment Complex), but the International Table Tennis Federation has also innovatively designed a brand-new competition format, offering fans an unprecedented table tennis viewing experience.
The number of participants has expanded from 16 men and 16 women to 48 players each, and the tournament is divided into two stages.
In the first stage, players are divided into 16 groups of 3 players each for round-robin matches. The group stage follows a best-of-4 games format, with group standings determined by win-loss records. The top 16 players from this stage advance to the knockout phase.
The knockout stage adopts a best-of-7 games, first-to-4-wins format, where each match directly affects the player’s progression in the tournament.
To standardize the production process of the common signal, the HB team has compiled a comprehensive “World Feed Production Manual,” which includes production philosophies, guidelines, technical standards, plans, and procedural documents.
This manual aims to provide rights-holding broadcasters with a comprehensive common world feeds production plan, ensuring efficient and standardized broadcast operations.
In terms of broadcast plan design, the QD Broadcast’s HB team actively participated in discussions with the event organizers, covering various aspects such as venue reconnaissance, visual effects assessment, broadcast effects design, stage setup, LED screen displays, and sponsor rights.
QD Broadcast designed a complete set of camera positions and microphone pickup schemes to fully showcase the characteristics of the table tennis event. The camera layout takes into account aspects like match broadcasting, athlete entrances, awards ceremonies, close-up shots, and sponsor rights, deploying multiple camera positions and specialty cameras accordingly.
In terms of world feed commentary,QD Broadcast provides high-quality English commentary services for rights-holding broadcasters, with each match featuring two English commentators.
To enhance operational efficiency, QD Broadcast once again utilized its proprietary ‘Smart Production Platform’ for remote commentary services.
Four English commentators are based in the EdgeMedia studio in Singapore, accessing the match signal with extremely low latency through the platform. The commentary audio is contributed to the venue’s world feed production system with minimal delay for integration.
This approach not only reduces the cost of setting up on-site commentary booths but also cuts down on travel and accommodation expenses for commentators. It also establishes a high-level pool of commentators, offering cost-effective services for various major tournaments.
In terms of world feed transmission and distribution services, this World Cup has attracted attention from rights-holding broadcasters worldwide, including regions such as Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
To ensure stable transmission and distribution of the world feeds, the QD Broadcast’s HB team has designed a distribution solution combining satellite and cloud transmission.
In addition to satellite uplinks on-site, the HB team has established multiple dedicated internet lines to send back multiple streams of the world feeds to the QD’s production center.
The production center monitors the quality of both satellite and IP signals in real-time. Using the QD Broadcast “Smart Production Platform,” they manage cloud transmission scheduling to distribute the world feed streams to all rights-holding media.
Moreover, leveraging the technological and resource advantages of the “Smart Production Platform,” QD supports various network protocols such as RTMP and SRT. They also provide network acceleration services to rights-holding broadcasters in different regions, ensuring timely and stable reception of the event signals.
QD has provided full-cycle world feed distribution services for multiple organizations including ITTF, CMG, SuperSport, RMC Sport, Antena, TV Tokyo, ESPN, and others. This includes technical solution design, integration testing, customized transmission, and emergency support.
Utilizing various transmission protocols such as RTMP and SRT, QD’s MCR supports a maximum simultaneous transmission of 14 feeds in a single day, accumulating over 850 hours of transmission services over 7 days for rights-holding broadcasters.
Apart from HB services, QD Broadcast team also completed the broadcast production and global distribution of the press conferences and the first stage draw ceremony.
The press conferences and draw ceremonies were produced with a live 5-camera setup. Together with the CDV Team, they collaborated using the OVR system to display draw information within the signal.
The signals were transmitted back to QD’s Production Center. The Beijing Production Center monitored signal quality and distributed the world feeds to event organizers and authorized broadcasters through the “Smart Production Platform”. This allowed global spectators to witness the exciting matchups together.
QD will continue to provide HB-related services for various large-scale events, adhering to an innovative spirit of research and development, and taking it upon ourselves to deliver higher-quality services.
We are confident that through unremitting efforts and continuous improvement, QD will bring higher-quality services to our clients and present more exciting sports experiences to spectators worldwide.
