Event Overview

Direct to Consumer is a strategy employed by content owners to ‘keep’ an audience and thereby maximise revenues. Cloud based content deployment and ever more sophisticated analytics associated with digital content deployment give content owners more information about their audience and their viewing habits than ever before.

OTT/streaming media is probably the fastest growing part of the Broadcast value chain right now. Early movers like Netflix have lost their first mover advantage and large global players like Disney, Apple and Amazon are hot on their heels.

Pre COVID-19, this was driving unprecedented investment into original content as well as alliances between commercial and non-commercial traditional broadcasters as these organisations look to gain scale in the most cost-effective way possible. During COVID-19, it is driving unprecedented SVOD viewing as consumers turn to OTT services to acclimatise to social distancing.

The way ‘direct to consumer’ is monetised is of the utmost importance as is the way digital and non-digital, linear and non-linear advertising opportunities are collated and presented.

The fast pace of change in this part of the value chain (in a fast moving industry) is probably the most fascinating of all. The deployment of 5G and the increase in mobile viewing habits (to be fuelled further by the robustness of 5G) will drive ‘direct to consumer’ even further.

This is the background for today’s online BaM Summit, with case studies and customers across the ‘direct to consumer’ value chain discussing their issues, their solutions and their plans for the future.
