ML and the Use of Smart Data to Attract, Acquire & Retain Subscribers in OTT

The media OTT world is getting increasingly crowded. Disney’s video-on-demand streaming service launch in 2020 attracted 10 million subscribers in its first 24 hours in just the US, Canada and Netherlands. Subscription video-on-demand platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video have accumulated millions of monthly active users and provide access to a variety of movies, TV shows, and documentaries at the click of a button. There’s no doubt media consumption has increased substantially in digital formats, with the lockdown accelerating this trend.

Looking to an IP-Powered Future

As we’ve seen with the global events of the last eight months, a world without video would be dreadful. Imagine this situation without global connectivity, or the sharing of information. 100 years ago, Spanish Flu devastated the world, and one explanation for that outcome was a lack of information. We have come a long way since then, and the media and entertainment world has played a vital role in dealing with the current pandemic.

What is a CDN?

Content delivery network, CDN, is a globally distributed network of Points of Presence (PoP) designed to provide faster and reliable content delivery to users. Whether we know it or not, every one of us interacts with CDNs daily; when reading articles on news sites, shopping online, watching Netflix, or scrolling through social media feeds. CDN is the helper behind your seamless experience. It helps minimize loading time, costs, delivery latency, and operational complexity by physically reducing the distance between content providers and users worldwide.

Realizing the potential of the cloud for live video production

The appetite for compelling live content is soaring, particularly live sports programming. Rethink TV has estimated that global sports rights will grow by up to 75 percent between 2020 and 2024, making it clear that live content remains king. This trend is particularly evident among younger audiences, with Nielsen figures showing that two-thirds of 18-34-year-olds watching linear TV preferred to watch live content. According to the Interactive Advertising Bureau, the same proportion of all consumers worldwide is now streaming online coverage of live events. This demand is, in turn, putting pressure on broadcasters and other rightsholders to adapt their workflows to meet greater and more varied needs for high-quality live content.
