      The IP Broadcast Revolution

The evolution from baseband to IP turned into a revolution in 2020, as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the streaming and broadcast industries to double down on remote production workflows and technologies. With studios shuttered, broadcast operations centers empty, and OBS trucks parked, video technology companies and producers have turned to IP-based production like never before, embracing its efficiency, flexibility, and ability to cost-effectively meet rapidly changing requirements.

x-dream-distribution GmbH – Delivery of the broadcast quality video across the public internet

Video Transport by Medialooks is a proprietary protocol that works on top of SRT and features automatic site discovery and network traversal (based on ICE), advanced forward error connection (FEC) and ARQ recovery implementations. Effective H.264 and H.265 compression is used for bandwidth reduction – from as low as 2 Mbps to as high as 80 Mbps for perceptually lossless transmission. When interfacing with a browser for remote video contribution or monitoring, the transport method switches to WebRTC.

With a development roadmap steeped in engineering and R&D excellence, TSL continues to work alongside technical leaders and initiatives such as SMPTE and AMWA to supply eco-systems that are intuitive and powerful across SDI, hybrid and fully IP infrastructures.

This presentation describes the evolution toward live production in the cloud, the benefits of moving from a local server, and looks into the challenges and opportunities it brings with it. It also tackles how to implement cloud-based multiviewing for live production, technical requirements, and solutions available.
