ProStream X

The Harmonic ProStream X video stream processor leverages advances in IT infrastructure to provide high-performance, high-throughput stream processing for mission-critical MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and HEVC delivery applications. The platform possesses a variety of advanced video processing capabilities, including multiplexing, scrambling, splicing and blackout switching. Featuring 10 Gbps throughput, it also serves as a high-capacity video gateway. The ProStream X stream processor runs on a 1-RU, COTS Intel® appliance and pairs with the Harmonic Electra™ X2 advanced media processor to deliver a compact, software-based solution for encoding and distributing superior-quality IP video streams.

ProStream X features include:

High-Throughput Processing
The ProStream X stream processor offers the choice of quad 1-GbE, dual 10-GbE or ASI I/O. The high-throughput 10-GbE option supports up to 2,000 simultaneous multiplexing and scrambling services. Gateway capabilities include socket address flipping, ASI-to-IP conversion and IP mirroring.

Scrambling
ProStream X is the industry’s first stream processor to support 128-bit DVB CSA3 encryption, integrated and certified by Cisco and Irdeto, making it the most secure stream processing solution for distributing UHD broadcast services. DVB CSA2, IPTV AES and BISS scrambling are also supported.

Statistical Multiplexing
Harmonic’s DiviTrackIP™ option integrates statistical multiplexing and IP switching by connecting ProStream X systems with remote Harmonic Electra X2 encoders across a LAN or WAN, allowing any ProStream X in the network to efficiently manage the encoders’ statmux pools.

Splicing
ProStream X processor supports both live-to-live splicing, which allows to switch between main and alternative live feeds seamlessly, with no ETR 290 errors at output.

“Pay As You Grow” Scalability
As processing needs evolve, the software-based ProStream X platform makes it easy to incrementally add or upgrade I/O modules and firmware licenses, simplifying scalability and extending the system’s value.

VOS360 SaaS

With Harmonic’s award-winning VOS360 media processing SaaS, content and service providers can move their offerings to the cloud and quickly launch new OTT services, without investing heavily in infrastructure. Harmonic’s solutions support the entire media processing workflow from ingest to distribution, increasing efficiency and cost savings; provide elastic capacity to support new services or peak events; and offer pay-as-you-grow pricing, boosting monetization.

Recently, Harmonic enhanced VOS360 SaaS with channel origination in the cloud capabilities for file-based and live streams. These new functionalities provide operators with support for graphics, branding, and digital video effects (DVE) for both file-based and live workflows in addition to pre-existing capabilities such as encoding, encryption and distribution.

By adding channel origination capabilities to VOS360 SaaS, Harmonic is helping drive the transition to software-based and cloud workflows, allowing video content and service providers to launch OTT offerings faster, increase their operational efficiencies and reduce opex and capex.

Unique playout capabilities and benefits include:

Live and file-based playout: Beyond just processing of live streams in the cloud, VOS360 SaaS allows video content and service providers to deliver file-based content from clips and graphics that augment the live streams. With other key processes (i.e., traffic, billing, asset management) already integrated or present in the cloud storage environment, operators can deliver complete channels that are comprised of live and file-based content all within the cloud infrastructure, without the need for conventional playout solutions. This opens up new monetization opportunities for operators.

Streamlined control: Harmonic offers seamless integration for control systems in the cloud to streamline playout management. An API and user-based controls for the playlist enable users to manage channels, as needed. With the control system present in the cloud environment, users can focus their attention on other important tasks as opposed to continuously checking the playlist status.

Reduced operational costs: Service operators using cloud solutions for OTT delivery would normally perform playout operations on-premises (i.e., playback of video clips, graphics and branding) and send a live stream into the cloud, where they would then apply different delivery platform profiles for broadcast and OTT. Now that VOS360 SaaS includes playout capabilities, operators can run entire channels in the cloud. This dramatically reduces operational costs, because operators no longer need physical infrastructure on-premises. Pay-as-you-go pricing for VOS360 allows operators to realize ROI in the shortest time possible.

Orchestrated management: Playout functionality is built into the VOS360 SaaS solution. There are centralized services for management, profiles, tracking of user accounts, billing, DevOps, interfaces, and more.

Maintenance and monitoring: Harmonic’s VOS360 SaaS is fully maintained and monitored by Harmonic to keep services operational, resulting in better quality of experience for end customers.

GTX Series L.A.W.N Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Wireless Microphone System

A wireless microphone system for the future! The GTX series utilizes fully-digital, patented and award-winning technology to deliver the ultimate in sound quality, system flexibility, and immunity to over-crowding and interference in the TV and mobile bands. The product of seven years of dedicated research and development, during which it underwent real-world testing in conjunction with major broadcasters and wireless audio professionals, the GTX Series system offers several significant benefits in addition to remarkable sound quality. It operates far beyond the UHF and VHF television bands, requires no frequency coordination, license, database registration or STA, and does not cause interference or create intermodulation products. The system is ideal for studio-to-studio, room-to-room or stage-to-stage operation since it emits less intentional radiation than the typical PC and will not interfere with surrounding signals. Using 24 channels of GTX Series Wireless actually cleans up spectrum – more than a full TV channel – at a location in order to protect legacy wireless systems’ operation for as long as possible while the available spectrum window shrinks closed.

The GTX Series system is currently available with five key components: the GTX3224 control unit, GTX24 body-pack transmitter, and the GTX32 transceiver are shipping and have been deployed successfully in studio, field and professional theater applications. The GTX24-HHP (performer handheld) and GTX24-HHB (broadcast handheld) transmitters, as well as a GTX24-INST “guitar” belt-pack transmitter will be available in Q4 of 2018, and a direct-to-fiber system will be available in early 2019. The system is quick and easy to set-up and operate, with 24 channels of premium-quality audio output from only a 3-U rack space. The system has no need for complicated custom filters, combiners and distribution amplifiers, making it less expensive and much less complicated to operate.

The GTX3224 Master Control Unit features MADI, Dante™ and AES67 digital outputs that are all available simultaneously and allow for seamless integration with IP-based infrastructures. Fiber outputs support long-distance runs. The 7-inch front-panel touchscreen provides access to system settings, monitoring tools, performance reports and other controls, and the free X-OP Control Software provides a simple method for remote operation and monitoring over Ethernet or wifi.

The GTX Series is removing limitations and changing what people think about wireless audio. We eliminate the complication and risk of operating in the UHF or crowded mobile bands, and provide users with far superior sound quality and system performance than traditionally available with legacy wireless systems.
