ANEMAN Enterprise

ANEMAN Free Version established the idea of an audio management tool that could be multi-platform and multi-vendor. There is a clear need for an intuitive and informative method of configuring the network, monitoring the performance and to store and recall settings. The Enterprise version is building on these basics but with the idea to control much larger networks that might require a degree of customisation and ongoing support. Enterprise is a web service operating 24/7 on your network, logging events and alerting errors. Extensive metrics allow the user to track and fix problems very easily. It is designed for multi-user operation with the option to add levels of security management. In fact the system administrator can segment the network into zones with individual access rights.
Merging Technologies can offer network and integration design, custom developments for specific widgets and workflows and custom development of ANEMAN to include additional devices, company personalisation and discovery protocols. The company is very open to suggestions and specific user requests.

Cloud Dubbing

Thanks to the boom in popularity of OTT services, feature films and TV series are being delivered to more platforms and localized into more languages every day.

Localization service provider, ZOO Digital has developed a cloud dubbing service that overcomes a number of industry challenges – including capacity, voice talent diversity, quality and time-to-market for dubbed entertainment content.

The platform behind the service works like an online recording studio. Unlike the traditional approach to dubbing in which those involved are required to attend sessions in one central studio, ZOO’s cloud dubbing service makes use of purpose-made software to manage the entire process remotely over the internet.

Giving Content Owners Choice

In the traditional dubbing workflow, voice actors, dubbing directors, recording engineers and other participants assemble in the same physical location, presenting significant challenges for coordinating diaries and travel. Most traditional dubbing studios draw on a relatively limited pool of voice talent living nearby in order to minimize travel and subsistence expenses. This leads to the same voices being heard repeatedly for dubbed soundtracks across multiple titles.

In contrast, cloud technology provides a way for participants to collaborate efficiently online and scale up operations with a distributed team.

The potential for using general recording spaces, vocal booths and even home recording is significant. Subject to adequate acoustic treatment and the availability of a suitable microphone, such spaces give almost limitless capacity for voice capture – and more options for content owners.

Innovative Cloud Technology

ZOO is adopting new ways of working, powered by cloud computing, to boost volume, quality and turnaround. Rather than using technically-complex generalist audio tools, the localization service provider has created purpose-made, cloud-based platform that is designed to be used by the voice actors themselves, thereby reducing costs and accelerating production.

Crucially for the entertainment industry, ZOO’s cloud dubbing service affords higher levels of content security.

In traditional workflows, reference video materials are delivered to each dubbing studio. Watermarks and spoilers are applied to protect content from the risk of leaks and piracy. However, cloud computing offers technical innovations with far greater protection – watermarks are personalized for individual voice actors; two-factor authentication is employed and user interactions with original content can be tracked and audited.

Implementation and Performance

Since the launch of the cloud dubbing service in 2017, it has proved to achieve greater results for clients. Content owners are seeing the productivity of cloud dubbing projects increase by up to ten-times the traditional model – while maintaining quality standards.

Adopted by major OTT operators, studios and broadcasters, the service is now delivering over 150 hours of dubbed content every month.

For voice talent and dubbing directors, the platform is user-friendly without requiring extensive training. Subject to their chosen recording environment meeting ZOO’s stringent qualification tests, new voice artists can be on-boarded for projects quickly regardless of their location around the world.

New Opportunities

Reduced costs open up the potential to dub a wider range of content for more territories. Improved efficiency leads to shorter time to market for global launches. And by removing the requirement for a central recording studio per country, content owners have access to a larger pool of voice talent – offering greater variation and expertise.

Cloud dubbing is already transforming the localization process for TV and movie content owners. Ask ZOO Digital about it today.

Ovation

Ovation 7.1 builds on the considerable reputation it has for being an excellent solution to live-to-air playout in studios or outside broadcast situations. The ability to accept a wide selection of cue-triggering commands, mix live and pre-recorded audio events and an on-board mixer provides tremendous flexibility. The award-winning Pyramix Virtual Studio recording and editing software is the sound design tool that is included in the package. This allows rapid adjustment of cue positioning, levels and buss assignment from the same UI. Almost any audio file can be accepted without any need for pre-formatting so last minute additions to playlists are particularly easy.
Live events or live broadcasts are multimedia and require a new set of tools to successfully deliver the right result. This is often in surround or immersive audio and can be a mixture of prerecorded and live action. Ovation is the answer in providing the complexity needed for the production with the simplicity needed for the live broadcast. No other system offers the flexibility of cue management, cue triggering, output configuration and compatibility with other show control or broadcast devices. Onboard mixing with automation, Pyramix in the background for cue editing and level control, as-played logs, 3D panning; the list of features goes on. The ability to add live announcements to a prerecorded show is a must for any venue.
The latest version supports VST3 plugins, adds full console automation, UDP/IP support, remote controller enhancements and a host of seemingly small but significant improvements. The choice of controller and UI and the many options for outputting commands make Ovation ideal as a show controller or equally happy working with popular video servers or show controllers. Ovation provides the ability to move far beyond the standard workstation limit of playing one sound per output. Able to sum as many layers of sound as needed to any output in the system, users can play back as many multi-track events as needed without any need for them to be linked or chased in any way. Able to sum playback information into surround and stereo buses at the same time while also providing an almost limitless amount of mix-minus buses to manage live broadcast inputs makes the Ovation the perfect audio hub for broadcast productions.

Change Management

Embracing the human factor

THE SECRET SAUCE FOR SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATIONS

Every company has to deal with change processes frequently. New technology, enhanced solutions and improved workflows are being introduced at a breath-taking pace.

Such changes are sometimes decided on and enforced come hell or high water. The human factor is often not taken into account. The result: overburdening and demotivation on all fronts. Refusal and apathy result in increased errors. Moaners gain momentum and slow down the process; sickness rates rise. Finally, technology or workflow solutions are declared as having failed.

Companies that master these challenges secure the successful outcome of projects and the intended ROI. They act instead of reacting. They are capable of taking actions and demonstrate leadership. They know that good Change Management secures the path to success.

INTRODUCTION

Broadcasters are subject to constant change. No other term is so overused as those regarding change. And Change Management is one of them. In order for new technology or workflows to be successful, Change Management is mandatory. Change Management consists of measures and activities intended to implement planned changes in organizations. If technological transition is to be successful, new strategies, structures, systems or practices must be established and implemented. This works particularly well when the people who are involved in such processes are brought on board. Nobody is happy with a “take it or leave it” approach. Companies that are faced with technological changes but do not look out for their employees in the process of implementation are obsolete.

Whoever wants to maximize ROI brings professionals into the company. Their experience in managing change make the difference. This ensures the success of organizational change processes. New technologies and workflow solutions usually imply major changes. Many job descriptions will evolve. Executives and project managers can either sit back and let things happen passively, or be proactive and create the best outcome, thus securing the business case.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT MAKES ORGANIZATIONS SUCCESSFUL

Organizations that look for support for their change processes from the beginning have employees, co-workers and vendors on their side.
Strain, sweat and a few calluses cannot tarnish the joy of team spirit and success. Not only the strong are united on a winning team, all participants pull together. The team that best prepares for the change will succeed. When major changes in businesses are accompanied professionally and strategically from the start, problems can be identified before they arise and thus be averted.

Change Management strengthens project managers and executives. Strong leaders motivate and function as role models. They retain employees, increasing loyalty to the company.

Change Management strengthens team members and co-workers.
Strong employees take on new responsibilities and face challenges with dedication and commitment. Rather than only carrying out instructions, they engage in the change process. They become co-entrepreneurs.
