MultiRights OTT Plus

As the OTT video market matures, basic DRM technology is no longer sufficient to enable the compelling services consumers are willing to pay for while complying with stricter security requirements mandated by premium content providers, such as 4K/UHD programming. Furthermore, delivering a multi-screen service consistently, reliably and securely to the growing list of devices and operating systems is a formidable undertaking. While DRM security serves to protect the content, advanced analytics are also increasingly essential to ensure competitiveness and maximize monetization opportunities.

MultiRights™ OTT Plus is Verimatrix’s response to the evolving needs of the OTT video market. As the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, Verimatrix developed MultiRights OTT Plus to allow operators and content owners to more effectively and efficiently control the brand experience of their premium services across devices. The solution optimizes content monetization through a sophisticated package of integrated security and analytics components. Offered on a subscription basis with cloud-based or physical deployment options, MultiRights OTT Plus addresses the multi-DRM quandary and native device DRM limitations, plus offers powerful delivery and analytics tools in a flexible, cost-effective package.

The components that make up MultiRights OTT Plus include:
~ MultiRights OTT, supporting all widely utilized DRMs and client device categories
~ VideoMark® and StreamMark™ forensic watermarking solutions, offering a range of anti-piracy tools to secure and monetize premium content services and delivery methods
~ Verspective Operator Analytics video services optimization and monetization platform, offering a way to emphasize data security and integrity as a foundation for actionable intelligence
~ Downloadable ViewRight™ Secure Player, supporting advanced video services features with all common pay-TV service models (such as linear, on-demand, and download-to-go)

The package offers optional connectivity to the Verimatrix Verspective™ Intelligence Center, featuring a set of cloud-based services including crucial anti-piracy alerting, VCAS system health and performance monitoring
MultiRights OTT Plus can also be leveraged to enable secure hierarchical distribution from origination at the content owner to viewer playback and reporting in a federated rights management (FRM) approach. This component is a security umbrella, applying proven Verimatrix security and key/rights management to multi-tiered online video distribution.

Providing end-to-end protection for valuable video content has often required repeated content decryption and re-encryption along the path to the viewer device. Both complex and costly, this also opens up windows for mismanagement and content theft at each intermediate point. Implementing an FRM model through MultiRights OTT Plus reduces OTT distribution complexity by offering a single point of integration, so operators and content providers can “encrypt once, decrypt once.”

Ultimately, MultiRights OTT Plus offers consumers a completely transparent subscriber experience in an evolving multi-screen and multi-DRM world. Thanks to the advanced analytics tools, operators and content owners can maximize content monetization and stay abreast of evolving consumer preferences. By leveraging this solution, operators can deploy multi-screen services with confidence and the assurance that their OTT monetization platform will adopt to changes in security regimes while continuously enhancing the user experience.

StreamMark

As operators and content producers alike continue to raise security standards in the battle against unauthorized redistribution, there has been a piqued interest in watermarking as a deterrent. Watermarking, particularly for streaming home entertainment, is becoming more and more prevalent- with the advent of UHD and early release window (ERW) content. As theft of premium content continues to surge, StreamMark from Verimatrix offers a highly-efficient, powerful solution for ensuring that pay-TV operators are protected.

Verimatrix developed the server-side watermarking capabilities of its StreamMark™ solution to support content delivered via HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and standard DASH adaptive bitrate (ABR) formats to enable ERW and other premium content business models. Server-side watermarking is an important alternative to client-side embedding since it does not require any integration with, or modification to, the client devices.

StreamMark supports a highly efficient process to embed robust, secure and imperceptible watermarks in digital content before delivery to each client device. The standalone solution is inherently DRM-agnostic and integrates with leading encoder and CDN components to protect unicast over-the-top (OTT) delivery by uniquely marking compressed video files, even if they are encrypted. It protects valuable content against real-time re-broadcasting threats and subscription fraud by enabling a flashing mark that is inconspicuous, yet quick to read and recognize. StreamMark can easily be integrated into today’s distribution networks using existing encoding and encryption workflows, processing power and storage.

The solution extends new revenue opportunities to pay-TV operators by expediting access to premium content for ERW on-demand services, the timing of which runs alongside the theatrical release. Studios offering ERW and UHD/4K content require video watermarking as a security measure.

Verimatrix has spent more than a decade developing a comprehensive technical approach to forensic watermarking backed by an unmatched partner ecosystem. The company has been working closely with the studios for several years to offer a proven ERW and UHD/4K video solution that satisfies MovieLabs’ specification for Enhanced Content Protection. StreamMark also complements the issuance of updated watermarking security guidelines from the Ultra HD Forum where Verimatrix played a leading role.

StreamMark works in conjunction with the cloud-based StreamMark Reveal™ Service, which analyzes video for potential watermarks. Once found, the service extracts the embedded payload, thus delivering convenience for StreamMark customers and confidence against arbitrary verification. These linked products allow pay-TV companies to trace illicit copies of online digital content back to the source and ensure full protection to their subscribers.

As a part of Verimatrix’s all-inclusive offerings, StreamMark joins the company’s flagship user-specific forensic watermarking solution, VideoMark, which uses a client-side watermarking technique to provide real-time, session-based video traceability as an alternative that limits integration on the client side. Through the proven VideoMark and StreamMark offerings, Verimatrix equips video service providers with a range of more flexible anti-piracy tools and deployment options that they need to secure and monetize today’s premium content services and the latest delivery methods.

Verspective Analytics

The brand-new Verspective Intelligence solution marks significant enhancements for video service providers to maximize their network performance and optimize subscriber experience in order to further monetize their services.
Video analytics tools are essential to the decision-making capability of various departments of a video service provider. Operations and Engineering teams need real-time analytics tools to analyze Quality of Service (QoS) and viewers’ Quality of Experience (QoE), to detect and correct inefficiencies and, ultimately, reduce operational costs. Business users can leverage historical data to better understand content consumption and viewing behavior, identify opportunities to increase viewer engagement and revenue, optimize ad slot pricing, and reduce costly subscriber churn.
However, the challenge faced by today’s video service providers is that they are currently using problem-specific analytics tools that create disparate data silos. More often than not, they are sitting on terabytes of data stored in silos scattered across the organization. For example, they might be using website analytics to get an aggregate view of their traffic, a QoE tool to measure the subscriber\’s perception of the service, a QoS tool to measure performance of the delivery platform, and a BI tool as a way to connect these multiple sources. Furthermore, there is no clear connection on how to develop insights into specific data-driven actions that improve the business.
To maximize the power of this data, service providers need a solution that can collect, aggregate and analyze it in the most secure fashion while complying with mandated and self-directed privacy practices. In short, they need to unlock actionable business intelligence.
Leveraging robust and secure data aggregation methods, Verspective Intelligence enables service providers to be better informed by providing a data environment for collaboration. It collects and presents data from a variety of systems including set-top boxes (IPTV and DVB-IP hybrid), all kinds of OTT devices, video on-demand (VOD) servers and content delivery networks (CDN), DRMs including Verimatrix VCAS™ and data enrichment sources, such as program schedules and metadata. It then normalizes the feed from such various subscriber data sources to provide a 360-degree view across different network and device types.
Verspective Intelligence bridges organizational silos, aggregating all gathered data into a secure cloud-based data lake while granting controlled and role-based access to each department, where roles can be individually credentialed. Users can also build and modify visualizations to answer QoE and QoS questions as they arise.
Verspective Intelligence allows for a more precise method of segmenting the subscriber audience based on how they engage with the service. Service providers are able to more effectively address potential problems and uncover upsell opportunities in order to reduce churn and increase ARPU with powerful off-the-shelf and customizable reporting tools. The solution also accurately collates content usage and consumption analytics data from downstream operator sites, which offers a level of unprecedented visibility for content owners.
Off-the-shelf dashboards and visualization tools offer historical reporting that can be drilled into audiences, content, consumption, and overall service performance. The intelligence and dashboard portal provides an enhanced visualization engine with expanded customizable reporting tools that can analyze audience engagement, acquisition, retention, content performance and consumption behavior analysis – to name a few.
