Fotonflite™ enables a high performance, secure ‘on-the-fly’, point to point transfer of Avid Media Composer projects and media workspaces between source Avid ISIS / NEXIS and a broad range of target storage types, including Avid, generic and proprietary storage. It is unique in its ability to do this especially with Avid ISIS / NEXIS work-in-progress.
Fotonflite has been developed in response to two different customer requirements:
· A studio that needed to securely sync Avid NEXIS between US and UK
· A post house who wanted to securely protect and manage remote freelance Media Composer projects on Tier 2 storage.
Existing transfer technologies were deemed insecure as they required data ‘at rest’ outside of the connected servers. Fotonflite solves this problem by deploying an always ‘in-flight’ encrypted point to point connection.
Using unique ISIS / NEXIS analytics, Fotonflite also transfers the project and media changes as ‘delta transfers’. This intelligence transforms the speed and efficiency of subsequent updates or backups. In some scenarios, reducing network payload by 90%.
This whitepaper describes the underlying technical approach behind Fotonflite and highlights a number of newly supported workflows.
Fotonflite is an option within Marquis Workspace Sync, Workspace Backup and Project Parking. It is available as an upgrade for existing customers with a valid support contract and as an option for new customers. It also offers more choices when deploying remote disaster recovery and business continuity solutions to protect Avid ISIS / NEXIS work-in-progress.

Edit Bridge
The next generation of edit bridge brings all the power and capability of the existing product in a ‘scale-out’ version, enabling the attachment of many more non Avid concurrent and non-concurrent editors.
Marquis EDIT BRIDGE enables the seamless integration of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects CC in an Avid Interplay environment. It includes two Custom Panels for Premiere Pro which allow you to control the workflow directly from the Premiere Pro user interface.
IMPORT FROM INTERPLAY
The import panel allows Premiere Pro users to browse the contents of Avid Interplay and select items for use in Premiere Pro. Having selected the media, Edit Bridge will then deliver it to Premiere Pro in one of two ways depending upon the codec. Depending upon the codec and settings Edit Bridge will either deliver the media by reference so that it can be instantly ‘edited in place’ in Premiere Pro, or it will be transferred to a network location and re-wrapped on the fly to a wrapper appropriate for Premiere Pro.
INTERPLAY BROWSE AND INGEST PANEL FOR PREMIERE PRO OR AFTER EFFECTS
The Marquis Interplay Browse and Ingest panel for Premiere Pro and After Effects allows Adobe users to browse the content of an Avid Interplay system and select content that they want to use in Premiere Pro.
The Marquis panel then allows the user to either:
EDIT IN PLACE: Import the content within Premiere Pro without transferring any content. The imported content is purely a reference to the original Avid content on the ISIS storage.
TRANSFER AND RE-WRAP: Transfer the content from the Avid ISIS and convert the content to MXF Op1a for use in Premiere Pro.
EXPORT TO INTERPLAY
Marquis have built on its many years of experience in edit system integration solutions to develop a custom panel for Premiere Pro CC that will allow users to export content and metadata from Premiere Pro and into Avid Interplay PAM.
This panel will allow the Premiere Pro CC user to:
• Export content from Premiere from the panel and monitor progress
• Create Content in Interplay
• Create MXF OpAtoms on ISIS
• “Check-In” Clip metadata to Interplay PAM

Medway
Medway enabled a complete digital workflow ensuring Edit Platforms, MAMs, Video Servers and Archive Systems can work seamlessly together.
Medway is a cloud and ground media-savvy middleware, widely used in the industry by many organisations such as Discovery, CBS, BBC, RTVE, MDR and ABS-CBN. Usually it is used to integrate network contacted and incompatible systems, such as post-production, DAM, transmission and media servers.
Intelligent media file, metadata, control and status management are key to the operation of Medway. However, with Medway the level of granularity and quality of these integrations is technically far superior to any other cloud or ground based system or service,
It is a simple concept; Medway integrates incompatible systems, It also manages incompatible media and metadata, presenting it in a way that interoperates easily between multiple systems.
However, for many applications this capability is useful, but not enough for more sophisticated workflows and use cases. In this short explanation we describe why Medway is a more useful infrastructure component and why it has more capability and why it’s a better strategic choice when considering both ground and cloud based workflows.
Project Parking
A new function of Project Parking; Delta Parking, helps simplify Avid project backup workflows and collaborations. This now means Avid projects can be moved to shared storage or cloud, picked up by a remote freelancer or production facility, edited, then versioned back to the storage – only the changes are uploaded which means only new media and the project metadata is moved. The project can then be restored back into the source project in Avid NEXIS. It’s a great way to share projects whilst protecting and managing the project. Better still, Delta Parking is a standard capability of Project Parking – ideal for productions using distributed contributors and making remote productions practical.
Workspace Tools
Certified by Avid, Workspace Tools are specifically developed to protect Avid ISIS or NEXIS work in progress. They offer the highest level of resilience and protection whilst providing the industry’s fastest recovery time when measured against the hardest performance benchmark: recovery to live production.
Workspace Backup | Provides disaster recovery through:
• Using unique Avid project and workspace data analytics, Workspace Backup is uniquely project aware, meaning a complete understanding of the nature and context of assets held within a workspace and linked assets in other workspaces.
• Complete NEXIS backup, restore of individual projects or bins
• Retention period protects from accidental deletion from NEXIS
Workspace Sync | Provides business continuity through:
• Complete duplicate of ISIS / NEXIS for immediate failover
• Recover production operation to last sync point within seconds
Workspace Tools enable advanced business continuity and disaster recovery operations and are installed at many leading media enterprises worldwide. Workspace Tools use a unique Marquis Broadcast developed workspace analytics technology. Together Workspace Tools provide an ultra-reliable and easy to deploy, advanced risk mitigation and protection solution for Avid shared storage.
Worx4 X
Worx4 X takes an FCP X XML that contains one or more Projects. It works through the XML finding all the media references, adds handles, joins any overlapping references and then copies just the used portions to a new directory.
Finally it writes the XML back out, into the same directory, but having adjusted the media references to point to the new media, and all the start times of the references to reflect the new trimmed lengths of the media.
X2Pro Audio Convert
X2Pro provides a smooth workflow between Final Cut Pro X and Avid Pro Tools, allowing users to take full advantage of the functionality of these world-class products now and in the future.
X2Pro integrates Final Cut Pro X into professional audio workflows, converting the exported Final Cut Pro X XML into an AAF file, which Avid Pro Tools can open as a session, delivering seamless integration between the two applications.
Using the enhanced metadata in FCPXML 1.4 from Final Cut Pro X, X2Pro provides a high fidelity conversion to a Pro Tools session, with support for audio gain and key frames.
Taking advantage of the innovative metadata-based organizing features in Final Cut Pro X, unlimited numbers of audio Roles in Final Cut Pro X are converted into Pro Tools tracks, allowing sound designers and mixers to start working immediately.

Media Portal
TMD’s Media Portal has been developed to provide a standardised method of receiving content. It is designed to make it simpler for media organisations to manage the process of receiving content, along with making it easier and more efficient for studios and third-party collaborators to deliver content to them. Media Portal provides an intuitive solution to transfer media content, with no technical knowledge required. This is preferable to many other methods of transferring content, where there may be limitations on file sizes and formats as well as security challenges.
With Mediaflex Media Portal, all that is required is for suppliers to access the web address of the organisation’s portal, which could be on the public internet. Once logged in the user is immediately presented with what media content they need to transfer to the Mediaflex platform. The first screen the user sees is a hierarchical list of media content grouped by Series, Season, Episode and Versions, all ordered by deadline date.
Once uploaded, the video content then goes through an initial set of pre-configured ingest technical QC processes, making it easy to see which files have been successfully uploaded, passed the initial technical checks and are ready to send onto the next stages of the content supply chain processes. Any number of users can upload at the same time from different user accounts located across multiple locations around the world. Configurable metadata fields are completed by the user at the same time, enabling discoverability and searchability of the content once it is enters Mediaflex as a media item.
Media Portal includes comprehensive logging of events including capturing the details of all files uploaded, sent and deleted. The interface is configurable for each media organisation, and intuitively provides support information and support availability based on the location of the user.
