Product Details

The Ascent platform continues the Intraplex tradition of providing an unprecedented level of reliability for audio over IP application. Built with enhanced network reliability and security in mind, Ascent supports the Dynamic Stream Splicing technology of IP Link codec, which provides “hitless” protection for packet losses using the combination of time and network diversity for packet transmission, and FEC.

To further enhance reliability and security, the platform supports the SRT protocol encapsulation. SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) is an open-source protocol that provides low-latency, reliable and secure streaming of audio and video data. The reliability in SRT is accomplished by a built-in packet re-transmission scheme; the security of streams is handled by the built-in AES-128/256 payload encryption.

In addition to “hitless” protection, like the IP Link codecs, the Ascent also supports automatic failover between different incoming streams or stored audio.

This combination of capabilities gives Intraplex codecs a market-leading position in STL over IP technology and unmatched network transport reliability.

Ascent supports both physical audio interfaces (AES3, Analog) and AES67 (AoIP), with a maximum of 16 full-duplex or a total of 32 channels (combination of encode and decode). Physical audio interfaces can be ordered as 4- or 8-channel cards, supporting both AES3 and analog audio signals.    The Ascent product is built on the Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) x86 architecture to leverage the scalability and cost of the technology. The product is available in a 1RU branded hardware server and as a software-only option.

The next generation of digital STL
Our challenge: to design a studio-to-transmitter link (STL) for your most demanding 950 MHz applications — one as reliable and robust as Intraplex® T1 and IP audio links. Digital STL manages much more than audio, so installation and configuration need to be straightforward, not a science project. Data should not be optional, requiring additional boxes and complexity. Your STL should be ready, out of the box, for AM, FM and HD Radio™, as well as future multimedia applications.

Earlier digital STLs were not designed for IP data transport. Adding IP data to them required optional modules and external add-ons, and many engineers working on HD Radio installations reported spending much time and money trying to eliminate glitches.

Our solution: HD Link™ is designed to manage all HD Radio™ transport scenarios, regardless of where you place your importer and exporter. Its two prioritized Ethernet paths give preference to HD Radio™ data over control and other LAN/WAN data. It supports both UDP and TCP, and even handles the switching of TCP return packets over asymmetric IP paths with plug-and-play simplicity.

HD Link offers RF power to spare, an integrated IP gateway with sophisticated data handling capabilities, and multiple channels of audio. The intuitive front panel and remote interfaces tap into the most complete feature set of any microwave STL, yet take less time to configure. Intraplex® IPConnect is an IP networking gateway solution for fortification of mission-critical communication across wide area networks
IPConnect solves the problem of reliable transport across complex networks that traditionally suffer data loss through dropped packets. IPConnect provides an added layer of reliability for many types of IP traffic such as HD Radio, DAB/DAB+, or DRM by employing a combination of packet protection schemes with network/time diversity and packet-level forward error correction. Additionally, IPConnect can bridge local area network (LAN) segments across wide-area networks with seamless tunneling to enhance reliability of program and signal transport across large geographical regions with multiple receiving and transmitting sites.

With its three network interfaces, IPConnect’s data gateway provides extra protection through packet encapsulation, which encloses external IP data packets in a GatesAir protocol wrapper as it moves across IP networks. IPConnect provides this protection for studio-generated data, as well as IP data from external sources. While the former might include RDS data or SNMP control signals to trigger a command at the transmitter site, the latter may incorporate program or control data coming from a network operations center, satellite feed or advertising service.

GatesAir’s Intraplex® LiveLook application for IP Link, NetXpress™, and HD Link™ provides advanced network analytics and monitoring capabilities at an affordable price. It is an invaluable tool for optimizing and monitoring network performance. Broadcasters are increasingly using IP networks for audio contribution and distribution. While IP networks provide clear benefits for both cost and flexibility, there are network impairments which must be overcome to realize the reliability required for broadcast application. While the Intraplex® IP Link platform provides several packet loss mitigation techniques, it is essential to understand the patterns of packet losses as well as other impairments on the network connection to optimize these techniques.

Intraplex LiveLook provides both a real-time analytics as well as a monitoring and notification platform for the IP Link audio codec systems. The analytics capability of LiveLook uses Burst Packet Loss modeling technique to analyze the patterns of packet losses, which is then used by the internal decision tree to provide recommendation on the most effective packet loss mitigation technique of the IP Link to apply.

The monitoring capability can simultaneously collect long-term statistics on multiple audio streams, which can be used for historical analysis. The notification capability creates a separate alarm log for each audio stream and can optionally send email notification to the user on the state of the audio stream.

GatesAir’s award-winning product, the new Maxiva™ IMTX-70 Intra-Mast Transmitter, is a very compact modular multi-transmitter system.  It has been scaled to allow installation within typical hollow mast/tower structures, or vertical poles.  This tower structure itself provides complete protection from the outside environment, while allowing heat dissipation via convection, plus forced air cooling through the unit.

The diminutive dimensions of the Maxiva IMTX-70 chassis are key to this unique design. Measuring only 230 x 485 x 320 mm, it allows installation into a wide variety structures. Access is via a lockable and sealed door. Cooling air is provided by vertical air convection within the mast structure, complemented by small fans inside the chassis.

Although extremely compact in size, the Maxiva IMTX-70 boasts many features normally found in full-size systems, including the capability of housing up to six separate transmitter modules, each with up to 70W of average DTV power. Each module can be configured as a transmitter, translator, or on-channel gap-filler with echo-cancellation, using optional input cards. A DVB-S/S2 satellite receiver option is also available as well as GbE (TS over IP), ASI, T2MI, SMPTE-310M, and ETI inputs. Digital modulations are supported include; ATSC, DVB-T, DVB-T2, and ISDB-T. For ISDB-T/Tb applications, an embedded Re-Multiplexer and Layer Combiner/TS to BTS, can be included.

The RF output stage is a high-efficiency Doherty broadband amplifier for energy savings and minimal waste heat. For added redundancy the Maxiva IMTX includes dual redundant power supplies, configurable as 2 x DC, 2 x AC or 1 AC plus 1 DC. Remote control includes SNMP and a Web interface.

Housed in a completely environmentally sealed enclosure, the PMTX-1 includes many options, allowing configuration flexibility for many applications. The unit is capable of being configured as a Transmitter, Transposer (Translator), or an On-Channel Gap-Filler. Waste heat is efficiently dissipated via the metal housing and heatsink. The compact dimensions (351W x 224D x 460H mm) of the Maxiva PMTX-1 chassis are key to this unique design, allowing installation on a wide variety of outdoor poles, or mast structures. Access is via a lockable and sealed door. The sealed metal housing of the PM-TX-1has been engineered to remove heat efficiently from the internal circuitry. The unique design of the PMTX-1 provides a high level of installation versatility, allowing it to be installed on virtually any suitable outdoor structure.

This versatile unit does not require a building, shelter or any additional outdoor enclosure. The totally sealed metal case has been designed specifically for outdoor environmental conditions, providing protection from all humidity levels, precipitation and wide temperature extremes.

The unit can be configured and operated as a 50W digital / 100W analogue transmitter, transposer or an on-channel gap-filler, with various input options. A satellite receiver card with CAM slot is also available. The unit includes an internal mask filter. The external power source requirement is 36-72 VDC (positive or negative).

Our challenge: to design a studio-to-transmitter link (STL) for your most demanding 950 MHz applications — one as reliable and robust as Intraplex® T1 and IP audio links. Digital STL manages much more than audio, so installation and configuration need to be straightforward, not a science project. Data should not be optional, requiring additional boxes and complexity. Your STL should be ready, out of the box, for AM, FM and HD Radio™, as well as future multimedia applications.

Earlier digital STLs were not designed for IP data transport. Adding IP data to them required optional modules and external add-ons, and many engineers working on HD Radio installations reported spending much time and money trying to eliminate glitches.

With fully adjustable curves (bell, high and low shelving and even additional linked-harmonic overtones) you can redistribute stereo information with subtlety, or make powerful corrections – even moving hard-panned frequencies from one side to the other – without affecting the overall level balance of the material.

'Panning' the bass

Sometimes a mix calls for a bass element, say the bass guitar track, to be panned away from the centre. Often this is best avoided as off-centre high energy in the low frequencies can create more problems than it resolves. Using Stereoplacer, however, the low frequencies can be kept in the centre whilst higher frequencies (i.e. the attack component) are moved across the stereo field with a shelving band. This gives the impression that the bass part has been panned, when really only the high, directional frequencies have been affected.

You can also achieve the opposite effect, pulling stray low frequencies back into the centre without affecting the entire sound.

With each node it is possible to add a number of additional harmonically linked bell curves, all referenced from the one ‘root’ control point.

For post production and restoration

Re-position specific elements or achieve gentle linear phase adjustment of your entire mix. Extrapolate and re-balance poorly positioned instruments whilst leaving the rest of the soundfield intact. You can even add stereo detail to previously mono recordings, leaving the original character intact.

The DAI Manifest Manipulator:

This component is the processor in charge of the manifest manipulation for SSAI. It is executing the following tasks: 

• Manipulate the HLS or MPEG-DASH manifest for each user to enable one-to-one targeting ad insertion; the Ad Pod created by the Ad Break Composer is inserted for each user session


• Manage multiple HLS tags for ad insertion (#EXT-X-CUE-OUT/IN, #EXT-OATCLS-SCTE35, #EXT-X-DATERANGE-)


• Support HLS versions v3 and higher


• Push on storage ad trackers information for server-side ad tracking


• Insert additional information in the manifest (for client-side tracking for example)


• Provide a monitoring interface to detect any issue coming from the sources, the system itself or third components like ad servers

Why we are different

For broadcasters and video content providers, an inherent tension exists between the need to deliver a premium viewing experience – complete with start-over and time-shifted TV functionality – and to monetize streaming video offerings and services. Ad Insertion Platform goes beyond SSAI and offers an end-to-end solution to meet market demands:

• User Interface, many SSAI solutions are API managed. At AIP, we decided to provide a full-feature platform. It can of course be managed by API, but it has a user-friendly interface allowing not only technical DevOps to work on the platform but also staff coming from the Adtech universe.


• Workflow and orchestration management through the “Ad Break Composer” application. All SSAI have quite basic features, managing ad bumpers, one call to an ad server and a final filler. Our solution provides a workflow editor to create events on a calendar. Each event contains the workflow that the SSAI will do when detecting an ad break. Many features are included as for example Volume Split, that allows to do a specific action or call for x% of the simultaneous viewer and another process for the rest. Or device split, to define what to insert for mobile users for example and what to insert for CTV users that will be different.


• Monitoring: DAIConnect includes a monitoring view allowing to detect any issue on production regarding the input streams, the platform itself or the third parties’ elements like ad servers.


• Statistics and data: Our DAI Insight component allows our customer to retrieve data and statistics about their service. All data can come from the video delivery part (like audiences) or from the Ad tech third parties, like the number of ads inserted, fill-rates, number of missed opportunities, etc.


• One solution for FAST and AVOD. The platform is managing from a simple interface live and VOD offers allowing the customer to have a central solution for both services


• Complex encoding workflow. The solution is natively multi-CDN, DAIConnect proposes a user interface to define the encoding workflow and ad delivery processes.


• Ad reviewing, as the system can call multiple ad servers and can also add ads coming from programmatic, if the customer wants to guarantee that the ads are compliant with their rules, the platform can block non-reviewed ads and is providing an interface to make a visual validation by the user.


• Multi-cloud deployment. The solution runs on multiple public cloud infrastructures like AWS and Google Cloud Platform but can also be deployed on-premises for operators willing to do SSAI on their own infrastructure and CDN.


• Simplicity: we take care of the complexity of ad insertion and bridge the gap between the video delivery infrastructure and the AdTech components, so you can focus on your content.


• Fully agnostic: as we serve as an abstraction layer, we can work with major ad servers, SSPs and DSPs assuring retrieval of all the market demand for your inventory.
