Mo-Sys bMR is for sports, news, or current affairs broadcasters who want to deploy (or transition to) a unified Unreal-based graphics solution for driving an LED virtual studio with integrated 2D/3D on-air graphics under MOS/NRCS control.

bMR has been designed to address multiple deployment scenarios

New studio build - where both on-air graphics system and a LED virtual studio are installed at the same time. Upgrade transition plan - where either the on-air graphics system or the LED content server are installed first, and used with the existing on-air graphics system or green screen studio until these are upgraded.

bMR LED content server system

bMR can drive any size/shape/pixel pitch LED virtual studio (equipped with sufficient render nodes), with the base system able to drive an LED studio with up to 8million pixels.

Create expansive virtual studios

Set extensions with simultaneous augmented reality (AR) are also possible, with the delay between the Unreal graphics perspective displayed on the LED wall, and the camera’s actual position, the lowest on the market today.

Multi-camera switching

The system offers multi-camera switching capability, up to UHD4K resolution, enabling multiple cameras to be used with an LED volume, where switching between cameras is orchestrated with the LED wall updating correctly.

Flexible upgrade path

bMR contains 2 Mo-Sys VP VFX virtual studio compositing licences (more can be added), for an upgrade transition scenario where a broadcaster needs to deploy bMR as initially an on-air graphics replacement to work with an existing green screen virtual studio, before upgrading this to an LED virtual studio.

bMR on-air graphics system

bMR’s on-air graphics system offers three ways of displaying templated data-fed graphics; standard 2D keyed graphics, keyed 3D graphics, or 3D ‘in-scene’ Unreal element graphics. The system conforms to MOS protocol and can be controlled by commonly available newsroom computer systems (NRCS) such as Octopus, ENPS, or other popular NRCS.

Intuitive interface with full system redundancy

bMR is based on web browser technology and uses a fully redundant server/client architecture. Importantly, it is an on-premise solution and is not cloud-based.

Local and remote preview

bMR offers local and remote preview, where remote preview is enabled via temporary agents to avoid copying, which in turn reduces remote preview latency.

Absolute control

The system uses a browser-based Mediahub to manage graphics assets, offering streamlined control of multiple graphic elements on a single production, as well as multi-studio capability. bMR offers users the ability to create simple custom interfaces for populating graphic templates, for attaching real-time data sources to graphic templates, or for manual control of graphic elements.

Novel 45 Degree Frame Geometry

The G30’s unique oversized frame geometry provides easy access to all the camera connections and accessories, making camera loading fast and simple. Its shorter and stiffer frame delivers better extended crane performance, ensuring the smoothest looking images. The unique frame geometry combined with a re-ordered axis priority (pan, roll, tilt) means that even when the mounted camera is pointing directly down, there is no gimbal lock and all 3 axis of movement and stability are active.

Oversize Direct Drive Motors

The G30’s high torque output oversize motors makes for crisp and precise camera movement, with optimum stabilization. Its built-in axis encoders are designed for virtual production and green screen use, meaning the G30 can be used for VFX shots without the need for re-rigging or additional external encoders.

Designed for Large Camera/Lens Packages

The oversized frame of the G30 means there's no need to use counterweights with large camera payloads to compensate for a gyro frame that is too short. The unique frame design, combined with powerful motors and semi-automatic balancing system, helps to balance a heavy payload.

High Payload

With a weight of 24kg (27.3Kg with wire isolator) and a 30kg/66lbs optimum rated payload, the G30 provides the fastest stabilized acceleration of camera payload in its class. The oversize motors and stub-frame design ensure that the G30 can provide stabilized movement for any camera and lens package chosen by the DP.

Smart Cable Management

The G30’s drive motors all contain ‘through holes’, eliminating the need for slip rings and specialized cables. As a result, standard cables and connectors can be used to connect camera and lens packages, giving the DP a wide choice of equipment.

Assisted balancing

On the back of the G30 are controls for Pan, Tilt, Roll. Pressing each button in turn enables the operator to adjust the axis chosen whilst the G30 holds the camera package in the other two axes. This dramatically reduces the time taken to balance the camera package across all three axes.

New Touch/Dial console

The Touch/Dial console for the G30 takes its design from the automotive industry. It comprises a shallow menu structure, a display showing the operator current parameter settings, and physical controls for direct, tactile, intuitive operation. This is the optimum interface for stressed production environments, where changes need to be fast and delays minimised.

Simple Tuning

Using a combination of the G30’s assisted balancing, simple cage adjustment, and touch/dial console, tuning a camera package for optimum performance is simple and fast compared to traditional gyro-stabilised heads. This process is further accelerated by smart features available through the Touch/Dial console: Auto inertia measurement – auto-sensing of camera payloads; Factory pre-sets – a library of camera/lens weight presets; Console pre-set buttons – recall of previously used camera settings.

Our precise, robust and lightweight 2-axis head for high-end digital cinematography is ideal for medium-sized camera packages, for example, ARRI Alexa with a large zoom lens. At the core of the L40 is our highly robust and precise motor drive with zero backlash, providing lag-free operation.

Extremely strong drive unit

Extremely strong and backlash-free drive units gives the operator instant and delay-free control. The precise gear drive enables flawless operation even with the biggest zoom lenses, unlike worm gear drives which can cause judder. The hole through the center of the gear boxes for cable pass-through removes the need for slip-rings and makes it future proof for high bandwidth digital video. This also allows for tangle free direct cabling.

Back-pan option

The L40 sets a new standard with the digital back-pan gyro option, making it a preferred choice for telescopic and standard crane work. It allows the operator to concentrate on the framing while the head takes care of the compensation of the crane movement.

Incredible payload

The L40 boasts a payload of incredible 40kg while only weighing 18kg. It is one of the lightest heads on the market with that strength.

Fast set-up

The L40, like all Mo-Sys heads, is lightning quick to set up utilising a daisy-chain system of identical “Mo-Sys bus” cables, providing simplicity and redundancy of spares. The head features a quick release camera plate to enable fast camera installation. All head frame size adjustments are by quick release levers for quickness and ease of balancing and nodal point positioning.

Intuitive control

The L40 can be operated with a variety of input devices such as hand-wheels, pan-bar or joystick. The Button-Console interface provides controls for pan/tilt velocity adjustment, input smoothing and direction, user defined position limits with feathering and axes zeroing. It simplifies the operation of the head in remote-mode making it ideal for tech-less operation. Our intuitive touch screen console gives access to the extended extra features like back-pan.

Data for post production

With built in high-resolution encoders the L40 is ready for a full VFX workflow, outputting accurate pan and tilt data and also connects to Mo-Sys VR modules to track cranes, dollies and cameras. The data can be recorded for post-production with the Mo-Sys MotionLogger or in Unreal using our Tracking Plugin. The L40 also interfaces to most virtual set softwares using our own protocol.

Roll-axis

A two-axis head can be effortlessly upgraded to a three-axis model with a 360˚ roll axis.

With a cleaner finish and upgraded internal drive chain, the revamped Mo-Sys Lambda 2.0 is set to disrupt the remote head market once more, being one of the only remote heads to feature programmable motion control.

High precision

The Lambda 2.0 is pre-equipped with telescopic camera plates, which provide quick and easy adjustment for any size of camera packages. The slip-ring technology allows continuous multi-turn 360˚ rotation on all axes without the worry of cable wraps. Since it was originally designed for motion control, the Lambda 2.0 offers and enhanced high-precision operation, accurate to a millionth of a full rotation, or a 3000th of a degree.

Incredible payload

The gears are also strong enough to cope with out-of-balance cameras that weigh up to 50kg. The head is capable of moving the heaviest cameras with a feather-like touch and can even handle 3D-stereoscopic mirror rigs.

Strong gears

Unlike some of its competitors, Lambda 2.0 has zero backlash. As a result, there is no ramping-up to overcome the backlash and, therefore, no latency. Now, integrated with the specially-designed gears from our L-40, it is reliable and robust, and can be used in extreme temperatures, enduring both in Siberia and the Sahara.

Intuitive controls

Another reason why the head is so popular is its ease of use. It comes with an operator friendly touchscreen control with an intuitive user interface that makes changing the settings, recording a move and playing it back a quick and painless task. The motion data can be recorded and used for post-production VFX.

Modularity

Another strong point of the Lambda 2.0 is its modularity. A two-axis head can be effortlessly upgraded to a three-axis model with a 360˚ roll axis, allowing operators to perform quick and smooth start and stop shots, allowing very subtle slow dutch moves, all with lightning fast precision. The additional roll-axis is controlled by a 3rd hand wheel or joystick remotely located at the operating desk for ease of use.

Console features

With the modularity come three stages of operational sophistication. The touchscreen operator can set the level with a password we provide. Some rental houses have been using the first level head as a tech-less system. The second level is for motion control with a simple, tech-less operation.

What is Mo-Sys VP Pro?

High-quality camera tracking

Developed from our patented broadcast camera tracking system, StarTracker comes the film-orientated StartTracker VP. This optical tracking system looks at “stars”; which are small, identical retro-reflective stickers which are randomly applied to the studio ceiling or on the floor. A small LED sensor, mounted on the studio camera, shines light on the stars and remembers the constellation. This then reports the position and orientation of the studio camera in real time to the rendering engine.

Unrestricted Unreal Plugin

StarTracker VP comes with a plugin for Unreal and as such is not limiting you in your workflow. It allows you to tap into the raw power of Unreal, giving full flexibility and creative freedom. Post-production

StarTracker is an absolute system that always knows where it is that is suitable for both AR and VR. With no technician required, StarTracker could be the perfect tracking technology for your next project.

Features and capabilities

The system looks at “stars”; which are small, identical retro-reflective stickers – the same reflective material that could be found on emergency vehicles. These stickers are randomly applied to the studio ceiling or the lighting grid. No additional structure is required. They do not have to conform to any pattern and can vary in height. The “stars” are hardly visible to the naked eye. A small LED sensor, mounted on the studio camera, shines light on the stars. This defines the star map, which allows the StarTracker to report the position and orientation of the studio camera in real time to the rendering engine.

Freedom of movement

StarTracker offers unlimited freedom of movement and gives accurate position, rotation and lens data in real-time - this makes it ideal for Steadicam and handheld. You can rotate the studio camera 360 degrees, and move it to any position in the studio, even right to the edge, as long as enough “stars” are in sight of the tracking camera. Other systems are often restricted in their tracking volume. StarTracker can track in 3m to 20m high studios. Since the tracking sensor points up rather than looking into the scene, the tracking is unaffected by studio conditions, such as moving objects, set changes, lighting configurations, reflections and plain green screen environments.

No lighting restriction

As the “stars” can be applied randomly, in no certain pattern, above the lighting grid, they do not restrict the studio lights in any way. Despite being optical, StarTracker is unaffected by studio lighting, giving you complete freedom to install and adjust lights as needed. This is unique to StarTracker.

Ease of use

The initial set-up and calibration is quick and simple. Once you have applied the "stars" to the ceiling, a major part of the installation is done. A brief mapping and calibration process only need to be performed once for each studio. Multiple cameras in the studio can track off the star map. Once calibrated, the system is fully automatic and starts tracking after being powered on. No extra technician is required for day-to-day operation.

Absolute tracking

StarTracker does not drift, unlike mechanical encoded pedestals that work on dead-reckoning and accumulate error with distance travelled. This excludes them from almost all AR applications. Because StarTracker is always referencing itself to its star map, its position is absolute and drift-free.

Cost-effective solution

StarTracker is the most cost-effective choice for tracking of free moving cameras. In fact, it is often the only viable option to track cameras in large areas. Having just one tracking sensor camera and lots of inexpensive “stars”, instead of having an array of expensive tracking cameras, makes it cost-efficient. By adding more stars to the ceiling, the tracking volume can be easily extended at a very low extra cost. You can even employ a single StarTracker system in several studios.

Support and maintenance

StarTracker does not require a tracking operator. Once it is set up, it just tracks, and maintenance is minimal. In case of a problem we can offer fast support, remote or on-site, and training.

Mo-Sys bMR is for sports, news, or current affairs broadcasters who want to deploy (or transition to) a unified Unreal-based graphics solution for driving an LED virtual studio with integrated 2D/3D on-air graphics under MOS/NRCS control.

bMR has been designed to address multiple deployment scenarios

New studio build - where both on-air graphics system and a LED virtual studio are installed at the same time. Upgrade transition plan - where either the on-air graphics system or the LED content server are installed first, and used with the existing on-air graphics system or green screen studio until these are upgraded.

bMR LED content server system

bMR can drive any size/shape/pixel pitch LED virtual studio (equipped with sufficient render nodes), with the base system able to drive an LED studio with up to 8million pixels.

Create expansive virtual studios

Set extensions with simultaneous augmented reality (AR) are also possible, with the delay between the Unreal graphics perspective displayed on the LED wall, and the camera’s actual position, the lowest on the market today.

Multi-camera switching

The system offers multi-camera switching capability, up to UHD4K resolution, enabling multiple cameras to be used with an LED volume, where switching between cameras is orchestrated with the LED wall updating correctly.

Flexible upgrade path

bMR contains 2 Mo-Sys VP VFX virtual studio compositing licences (more can be added), for an upgrade transition scenario where a broadcaster needs to deploy bMR as initially an on-air graphics replacement to work with an existing green screen virtual studio, before upgrading this to an LED virtual studio.

bMR on-air graphics system

bMR’s on-air graphics system offers three ways of displaying templated data-fed graphics; standard 2D keyed graphics, keyed 3D graphics, or 3D ‘in-scene’ Unreal element graphics. The system conforms to MOS protocol and can be controlled by commonly available newsroom computer systems (NRCS) such as Octopus, ENPS, or other popular NRCS.

Intuitive interface with full system redundancy

bMR is based on web browser technology and uses a fully redundant server/client architecture. Importantly, it is an on-premise solution and is not cloud-based.

Local and remote preview

bMR offers local and remote preview, where remote preview is enabled via temporary agents to avoid copying, which in turn reduces remote preview latency.

Absolute control

The system uses a browser-based Mediahub to manage graphics assets, offering streamlined control of multiple graphic elements on a single production, as well as multi-studio capability. bMR offers users the ability to create simple custom interfaces for populating graphic templates, for attaching real-time data sources to graphic templates, or for manual control of graphic elements.

REPLICATE NATURAL MOVEMENT

An operator has several tools inside Polymotion Chat to replicate a natural camera movement. For example, after framing their subject, a ‘static zone’ can be set to control how far the subject can move before the camera starts to follow it. The speed of this move can also be controlled in line with the production requirements.

FLEXIBLE AND EASY TO USE

Polymotion Chat can utilise presets to help locate and frame subjects. This can include off frame positions for graphics insertions for news or sports programming or set camera positions for intros or interviews.

Additionally, for the pop-up studio, a remote production workflow can be used with the operator managing the Polymotion Chat system over IP from the main production facility.

USE YOUR EXISTING CAMERAS

Any combination of the MRMC Robotics range can be used with Polymotion Chat.

For customers who already have chosen their cameras they can simply add them to our AFC100 platform. This will turn the camera into a fully automated robotic head with pan, tilt, zoom and focus. This delivers the same consistent ‘look and feel’ in production with the added benefit of precision.

ONE OPERATOR

The Polymotion Chat solution comes in either a 1U Polymotion Server (which supports up to 3 tracking heads) or a 2U Polymotion Server (which supports up to 6). Simply use your existing cameras on one of MRMC Robotic heads and connect. The interface has been designed to work with either a touchscreen or a standard keyboard and mouse. One operator can easily control Polymotion Chat and additional operators’ consoles can be added.

SIMPLE UI

With Polymotion Chat software, automatic zones can be set per camera to ensure the subject is framed correctly and if they move beyond a set radius the camera automatically follows them. Limits can also be set so that if the subject moves out of the studio space the camera simply stops following and returns to it’s default position.

ACQUISITION & NEWS PLANNING Journalists can quickly and easily browse for video and text, with a variety of information sources at their disposal: wire agencies, rss feeds, websites, the station’s existing media archive, or any external video file. The time and number of programmes per day, week and month, and the format or outline structure with placeholders, are imbedded into LNS system. News stories on individual rundowns are assigned to journalists who can see the tasks assigned to them from their own login.

SCRIPT AND VIDEO EDITING Journalists write their story, app and web page template cues, prompter script, camera cues and character generator text using a simple to use, multilingual Windows programme. As the story is changed and updated, all users are updated on developments. The journalist can record voice overs and undertake a simple edit in their workspace, using the inbuilt timeline editor. If extensive video editing, packaging and compositing is required, the timeline can be exported to an NLE, rendered and the file imported back into the LNS workspace. If only cut editing and voiceovers are required, then rendering of the timeline is processed by LNS. After checking, the assigned journalist marks the resulting video as the on-air copy, which notifies it’s completed. It is then marked as being ready for more senior editorial approval and placed in a pool of stories and content, ready to go into the programme running order with a simple drag and drop.

PRE-PRODUCTION RUNDOWN MANAGEMENT Using pre-prepared templates for each deadline or programme category, the completed stories and packaged content is now in a specific rundown, which shows detailed information on the readiness of each of the stories or packaged content, signaling potential issues such as video missing, prompter script not approved, cg not approved, etc. Users who have sufficient rights can then publish the rundown, for air, app and web

Management of Video feeds

The main function of LinkMatrix is to connect video sources with TS decoders such as IRD or social media platforms such as Facebook.

Remote control

With the LinkMatrix all systems in the field can be easily controlled and monitored. They can be remotely accessed and all settings on the units can be changed. The user-friendly architecture assures that the remote-control GUI is the same as seen in the field, facilitating true remote support.

Remote production management

In combination with our Multicam units, it is possible to do a true remote production of a multi camera event. In combination with our VPilot platform, it is possible to do the complete production with just a single operator on site. LinkMatrix also supports RS-422 output, enabling remote production with cameras from Sony, Panasonic and others.

LinkMix

The LinkMatrix serves as the heart of all our services and products, and can also function as a video router when combined with the MVP LinkSwitch server. The LinkMatrix production tab offers features such as the creation of playlists, overlays, live switches and tickers to enable the production of complete IPTV channels. Playlists can be generated with exports from original WMT streams, as well as from other clips using the upload function, and can be either wall-clock based or interruptible. Interruptible playlists introduce leaders and pre- and post-roles for live productions targeted to platforms such as Facebook. they can also be used to insert advertisements before and during the broadcast of sports events.

For our multicamera units, LinkMatrix supports web-based PTZ control as well as shading and color correction.
