What is HESP?

HESP is an HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) streaming protocol that enables streaming services to be delivered with sub second latency, with a significantly reduced streaming bandwidth, at scale. An impressive list of improvements, further augmented by significantly reduced zapping times, pushing viewer experience and engagement to the next level.

HESP allows you to stream with, on average, a latency that is 7 times lower than current industry standard low-latency HAS approaches. An end-to-end latency of up to 400ms can be achieved. Low enough to enable new interactive TV formats and services. When using the HESP protocol the average zapping time is 20 times faster than with industry standard low latency streaming approaches. With a zapping time of less than 100ms, the channel change will happen in the blink of an eye.

What is the HESP Alliance?

The HESP Alliance was launched on the 1st July 2020. The HESP Alliance was launched by founding members; THEO Technologies and Synamedia. With the aim to bring together streaming video vendors and media companies to provide superior online video quality of experience at reduced cost through standardising and advancing the High Efficiency Streaming Protocol (HESP) and marketing of HESP solutions.
