Aperi Uncompressed Transport (SMPTE 2022-5,-6,-7) over IP App

Encoding and multiplexing for distribution and re-distribution

The Aperi Uncompressed SDI over IP (S22-567) App is an FPGA-based application designed for our microserver platform, and is available from the Aperi App Store. Offering up to four-channel bidirectional SDI encapsulator and decapsulator for SD, HD, and 3G SMPTE compliant video signals, it automatically detects any valid source on each input for processing. The app aggregates the IP encapsulated signals into 10 GbE interfaces, with supported FEC capability. FEC packets are added at the RTP layer of each encapsulated IP flow. Inverse functions are applied to all channels, with a PDV buffer on each to absorb network jitter. Uncompressed flows are duplicated at the 10 GbE outputs of the encapsulator, enabling the use of diverse routing. Each decapsulator can receive duplicate flows on separate physical interfaces, which are temporally aligned prior to packet validation and selection. These features provide a hitless switching capability. Our uncompressed SDI to IP network adaptor app provides unparalleled performance in transporting SDI signals over an Ethernet network. Additional use cases, such as replacing an SDI router with an Ethernet switch in an SDI plant. The versatility of transporting SDI via Ethernet lends the app to numerous present uses cases, along with uses in larger Ethernet networks in the future.


An integrated web server is included with the app, which is automatically detected and can be easily accessed via the chassis management port and viewed in any modern internet browser. The UI is built above an open, highly accessible RESTful API that provides numerous monitoring and configuration parameters. It’s designed to adhere to the standard cloud model and comply with evolving industry standards for device discovery and registration. It easily integrates under any orchestration platform.
